Video: The 2012 Mille Miglia in a 1955 Alfa Romeo

Ride along with EVO Magazine founder  Harry Metcalfe as he drives a 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS through Italy in the 2012 Mille Miglia. Harry Metcalfe, managing director and editorial director of  the "buff book" EVO, enjoys the many perks that come along with being one of the coolest editors in the business. His EVO diaries segment frequently documents his escapdes to the Pagani Factory to get an exclusive test of the 760RS, drives a Lamborghini Countach QV from Italy back home to the UK via the epic Route Napoleon, and just this past May, participating in the  Mille Miglia. This wasn't Harry's first time participating in the modern Mille Miglia, last year he brought his very own Ferrari 550 Barchetta to drive along in the thousand mile tribute to Ferrari. This year however, he and his wife received a very special invite to drive a 1955 1900 SS  maintained by the Alfa Romeo museum.  Over four days from May 16th through the 20th, the Alfa drivers and cars could be monitored in real time and real speed via GPS and twitter updates on a special Alfa Romeo website. Essentially brining the vintage road rally into the 21st century and helping Alfa fans keep track of their favorite cars along the route. Metcalfe's Alfa aside there's no shortage of seriously amazing cars in this video. One special moment comes on the third day's departure as his Alfa rolls by what looks like over two dozen racing and road going Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwings. There are also some great bits bits where even Harry's jaded car journalist opinion cannot contain the exctiement of being passed by a 1955 Mercedes Benz SLR going flat out through the night. Having driven all of the best and greatest cars has done nothing to check his enthusiasm; he's still very much a big kid. Ride a long with Harry in this 1,000 mile journey back in time:
