Video: Why Garage Queens Are a Sad Joke

We post a lot about really expensive classic cars here on BoldRide. But let's face it, a car ceases to be a bold Ride once the owner parks it and allows it to sit around collecting interest. At that point it’s become an investment and let’s face it, investments are not sexy. Thankfully the 300 SL Gullwing in this video, courtesy of Depth of Speed, is no nest egg and it’s sexy as hell. The owner spent his life fantasizing of the day when he’d get to own his childhood dream, and now spends as much time as possible driving it like Stirling Moss on a Mille Miglia reconnaissance lap. Shocking, because only 1,400 300 SL Gullwings were built from 1954 to 1957. In 2011 a meticulously restored 1955 300 SL coupe sold for $1.375 million, while more “regular” Gullwings sell for $600,000-$800,000 all the time. But return on investment is clearly not the goal here. This owner makes it his job to properly spread this 300 SL’s wings as much as possible and damn does it sound good! We’re not exactly sure how Josh Clason finds these guys, but we’re glad someone is out there restoring faith in classic car owners. As for the owner of this piece of automotive poetry, we’re trying to get in touch with him to buy him a beer… or a whole case. See more of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing here
