Your Ride: 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha
To this day Doug and Dawn Muntz’s Hummer was a lifesaver, literally. In 2010, the Muntz family was in a horrific accident and had their '06 Hummer H3 to thank for saving all their lives. Their vehicle had been traveling at 55mph when it was T-boned in the driver’s door. The impact forced the Hummer to roll and land on its roof in a 14-foot ditch. Since that terrible accident the Mutnz family has a feeling of pride and loyalty to the Hummer brand. While recovering from the accident the Muntzs agreed to purchase a replacement H3 Alpha. Doug shares with BoldRide how special and meaningful their “Blown H3” is today.BoldRide: How did you acquire the ride? Muntz: Prior to our accident my wife, Dawn, and I were planning on ordering a Chevrolet Camaro ZL-1, which we would mildly customize for auto shows. But after that life-changing day in 2010 we went back to the dealership to purchase our H3 Alpha. What have you done to make it a bolder H3? As we were recuperating from our injuries we started discussing modifications that could be done to the Hummer. We already had the stainless nerf bars, brush guard and fuel door, roof marker lights and luggage cross bar installed. The modification began with adjusting the torsion bars to raise the front end height. We replaced the OEM shocks with Bilstein shocks all around. The factory wheels and tires were next to go, as we replaced them with Dick Cepek DC-2 18x9 wheels and Nitto Trail Grappler LT295-70R-18 tires. We changed the OEM taillights to have smoke tinted LED lights. The entire undercarriage is painted gloss black and clear coated. We installed a Magnuson MP112 supercharger kit and Magnaflow 16832 exhaust kit. After all this work, we had the custom flame paint work done to the exterior. There is an airbrush painting of the “True Fire” flames and “Blown H3” graphics on each rear 1/4 panel. The interior headrests are embroidered to match the graphics on the exterior. We had everything under the hood painted as well and had installed Warrior Products 128 rear leaf spring shackles. Other minor modifications include a candy blue Purple Cranium "Spider" on the rear end housing, blue LED lamps in the foglights, chrome billet hood panel with handles and the "Blown H3" license plate.
What do you love about it?
Dawn and I love the fact that it is so unique. Also, all the work we had done and everyone who worked on it for us has made it look and run exactly as we envisioned.
Dream accessory you'd love to get for your H3?
Other than the supercharger, probably a kick-ass custom stereo system or custom blue lights on the undercarriage and in the engine compartment. We love music and I think the custom lights would look great at shows.
Favorite and dream place to drive and why?
I love to drive the lakeshore around Lake Huron on Michigan's east side. It’s a very beautiful and relaxing drive. A dream drive would be along the northeast coastline during the fall color season, or as the pace car at Michigan International Speedway. The beauty of the northeastern U.S. and the thrill of leading 43 NASCAR cars to the green flag!
What's your favorite memory of your car?
To this point, my favorite memory would be Dawn’s reaction when she saw the completed paintwork for the first time; she was in absolute awe.
