Spied Ride: Facelifted R8 Spotted Testing on the ‘Ring

The Audi R8 is simply an awesome car. If it went unchanged for another 10 years, it would still be the most comfortable, drivable supercar available and one of the most advanced cars on the road. But keeping up with the Joneses is kind of the name of the game for any modern car-no matter how unbelievable. To that end, Audi is updating the R8, and it’s been spotted testing on Germany’s famed Nurburgring. Thankfully, they are not messing too much with a good thing. One notable change are the headlights, which will feature a full LED assembly. If the LED’s on the new A7 and A6 are any indicator, the setup on the R8 will shock and awe the masses. The next notable change are the new circular exhausts. The current 5.2 V10 model features Audi's characteristic oval exhaust tips, while the 4.2 V8 features the dual small circular exhaust tips on each side. Based on the new rounded tips and gaping vents on the side blades, this could indicate it is likely the V10 model- or just a disguised V8. If it is the V8 model, it’s likely now putting out 450 horsepower. Customers can now also choose the 7-speed double clutch transmission for lightning-quick shifts. The updated R8, which will debut later this year, will be followed by an all-new generation in 2015. That next-gen R8 will not have a manual transmission, so if you don’t opt for the 6-speed, shame on you. Seriously. Source: AutoEvolution
