Unveiled: 2012 Bentley EXP 9 F Concept
Today Bentley debuted their entrée into the world of the SUV when they unveiled the EXP 9 F all-wheel drive luxury Sport Utility Vehicle at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. The designers kept key Bentley benchmarks throughout the new vehicle: the matrix grille, the round lamps and strong powerline and haunch can all be harkened back to the days of the famous Bentley Blowers. And some of the stylish points are functional as well: the day-time running lamp apertures double as intakes for the twin-turbo W12 engine. The 6.0 liter powertrain comes with an 8-speed transmission, developing 600hp and about 800 Nm of torque. Meaning its likely zero-to-fox hunting in less than five seconds. While performance and handling have yet to be truly put to the test, the interior is generating quite the buzz. Inside the EXP 9 F, drivers are invited to chose between driving modes, with Comfort, Sport and Off-Road all being options and toggled between by the switch of a gunmetal-brushed dial. The cabin is drenched in luxury, another homage to the heritage of Bentleys of yesteryear. Traditional handcrafted elements such as wood, leather and polished metals such as aluminium and bronze are used to create a sense of British luxury, yet the way they are used sets a fresh and contemporary interior ambience. Even the luxurious silk wool floormats are reversible – with one side finished in durable, ribbed saddle leather for use when the driver and passengers are dressed for the great outdoors.
Sitting in the back, one can chose to ride either in business or pleasure mode. The former provides ample legroom with a fold-down keyboard and full internet connectivity via an iPad or tablet, while the latter features a more reclined position with powered footrest, drinks table (there’s a hidden spot under the armrest which features a mini-fridge big enough for a bottle of bubbly and flutes) and an screen for movies. In short, The brand’s press release best sums up their new vehicle: “The EXP 9 F represents the opportunity to take Bentley ideals of design, craftsmanship and engineering into what would be – literally – new terrain for the brand.” See more of the 2012 Bentley EXP 9 F Concept here
