Bold School: 1929 Bentley 4.5 litre Supercharged Racing Single-Seater

When iconic watchmaker George Daniels recently passed away, car enthusiasts around the globe took notice. That's because Daniels' renowned auto collection is now up for auction. The cream of the choice crop is this 1929 Bentley 4.5 litre Supercharged Racing Single-Seater. The car originally came from Sir Henry Birkin's (one of the original Bentley Boys) race team and achieved a staggering number of wins and shattered records, including the worlds fastest lap record (137mph) at Brooklands in 1931. It was a pain to drive, due to everything from the heft of the car at 3,000-plus pounds to the gear shifter that was situated on the outside, but Daniels once remarked, "For all of its inconvenience, it is a most exhilarating car to drive both on the road and track." When the car hits the auction block on June 29th, bidding is slated to start between between $4.7 and $6.3 million.
