The all-new 2017 Porsche Panamera was unveiled last week and surprised everyone. Not because it's ultra-high tech, or fast enough to worry supercars. But because it's an extremely handsome thing. Where the seven-year-old original looked like a bloated salamander, the new car is lithe and elegant.

And if it looks anywhere close to this rendering (above), the shooting brake version will be a bit of a stunner itself. There have been plenty of spy shots of prototypes at the Nurburgring, but their rear-end styling doesn't look fully resolved.

Porsche first hinted that there would eventually be a longroof Panamera when it showed the Sport Turismo concept in 2012.

The production-spec Panamera wagon is expected to arrive in showrooms some time during the second half of 2017. Porsche is unlikely to pull focus from the saloon when it debuts at the Paris Motor Show in October, so the earliest we will see the wagon will probably be the Los Angeles Motor Show in November, or the Geneva show next March.
