Follows in the footsteps of the E-Class sedan.
Set to be unveiled on June 6th, the redesigned model follows in the footsteps of the E-Class sedan and adopts an upscale exterior that closely echoes the rest of the Mercedes lineup. The teaser video doesn't reveal much but we can see the wagon will have a tailgate-mounted spoiler, a gently sloping roof, and wraparound taillights.
The cabin largely carries over from the sedan but there's an accommodating cargo compartment with side storage nets and rails integrated into the floor. This particular model is a high-end variant as it features premium leather upholstery, wood trim, and a dual sunroof.
Mercedes has been relatively tight-lipped about the model but it will ride on the new MRA platform. This should enable the E-Class Estate to weigh several hundred pounds less than its predecessor.
Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of different engines including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that produces 192 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. On the petrol side, there should be a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.
Buyers who want to haul more than just groceries can wait for the high-performance E63 Estate. It is expected to use a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 571 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. There could also be a more powerful S variant with 612 hp and 626 lb-ft of torque.
