Tesla Motors has performed a demonstration of its Bioweapon Defense Mode to prove it's not just a gimmick.

Car manufacturers use a lot of fancy terms when talking about a model’s features as a way to lure in more buyers. Tesla Motors is putting money where its mouth is by showing how the Model X’s Bioweapon Defense Mode actually works during an in-house test. The all-electric SUV was placed inside a bubble that had extremely high level of pollution, 83 times higher than EPA’s “good” rating.

The Model X’s HEPA filtration system was capable of eliminating the outside air of bacteria, pollen, and pollution before it penetrated the cabin. At the same time, the air inside was further cleaned to eliminate any traces of potentially harmful particles. Tesla points out the air inside the Model X was cleaned in less than two minutes thanks to the HEPA filtration system which lowered the pollution levels to the point these were undetectable by the measuring equipment.

Tesla goes on to specify the Model X with the Bioweapon Defense Mode turned on also reduced the level of pollution outside the car by 40 percent in a matter of minutes. The system is so effective that “you can literally survive a military grade bio attack by sitting in your car,” according to Tesla.

We certainly wouldn’t want to test if this is true, but this statement goes to show that Tesla has complete confidence in the performances of the system which can also be had on the revised Model S.
