Model will replace the current M4 safety car.

The limited edition BMW M4 GTS is going racing as the German automaker has announced the model will become the official safety car of the 2016 DTM season.

Looking virtually identical to the road-going model, the safety car has been equipped with a number of track specific accessories including an LED light bar, LED flashers, and plenty of “DTM Safety Car” stickers.  The model also has a front splitter, a rear wing, and 19- / 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with Acid Orange accents and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Since the BMW M4 GTS is already available with an Acid Orange roll bar and a fire extinguisher, the conversion to a safety car was pretty straight forward as the biggest interior change is the addition of a radio that enables the safety car driver to communicate with race officials.

Like the standard M4 GTS, the safety car is powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that features water injection technology.  This enables the car to produce 500 horsepower and 442 pound of torque.   The engine is connected to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission which enables the model to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 189 mph.
