- Besides being the most potent, New S10 lost weight and was up to 5% less; adoption of smart electric steering and new suspension leave the most robust and comfortable car, especially in urban use
SAO CAETANO DO SUL - In addition to visual changes and finishing, New S10 debut in May in Brazil with important mechanical developments and content that position as the most technological segment.
The model has avant-première in Agrishow, considered the most important agricultural fair in Latin America. It takes place from 25th to 29th of April in Ribeirão Preto (SP).
The Chevrolet pickup was always reference in robustness and strength, and with this new model establishes a level of sophistication and modernity never before found in national average pickup trucks.
All to meet those consumers seeking a brave and multifunctional 4x4 vehicle also for urban use - as already happens in the United States, where the "trucks" prevail.
"We took the concept of the American version of the Colorado pickup truck and brought to New S10. Thus, the Brazilian truck strengthens its off-road capability adding the comfort of a passenger car, "says Marcos Munhoz, vice president of General Motors.
For this, the structural part of the model was reworked. The sets of suspension and brakes, for example, are new; while the vibration control systems and noise have been improved.
The introduction of smart electric steering also contributed to a better handling of the vehicle, especially in urban stretches. The Chevrolet system is equipped with technologies that make up the track gradient over long distances and reduce judder generated by the unbalance of the wheels.
The new S10 is up to 5% more economical through the use of lighter materials, new mechanical components and innovative aerodynamic solutions. But it remains the most powerful and strong segment, both in setting TurboDiesel 2.8 (200 hp) and the 2.5 Flex (206 hp).
From an aesthetic point of view, the 2017 version of the truck is immediately perceived by the new visual identity -in line with the global brand DNA. The changes show the strength and prestige of the product.
Most of the news is on the front. The hood gained sportiness with the cavity carved on the back. The grid was extended to the lights, which were also completely redesigned and may have an LED light guide (DRL), giving a peculiar luminous signature to the template.
The fender brings aerodynamic appendages at the ends framing the auxiliary lights, and a kind of steel chest, in the middle, just below the plate frame, reinforce the muscular style of the car.
On the side, we highlight the mirrors with repeater flashes and unpublished aluminum wheels. They help reinforce the perception that the truck is bigger and more refined. Rim 16 are in input versions (LS and LT) and rim 18 in the most sophisticated, an upgrade to the LTZ model (luxury). In the top line of High Country, this wheel size is tradition.
At the rear of the new S10, the novelty appears in the hopper cover, which thereafter may come with a discreet built-in reversing camera on the handle, thus preserving the harmonious look of the set. The cargo compartment gets different types of coverage according to the settings and there are lanterns with LED option.
In relation to the color palette, the Blue Old Blue Eyes and Ouro Negro make his debut on line 2017 pickup truck. They join the existing Switchblade Silver, White Summit, Red Chilli and Grey Son of a Gun.
The cabin also comes with the sophistication jump. The materials are more refined and pleasant to the touch (soft touch), while the instrument panels and doors have been completely refurbished to bring better ergonomics and accommodate the largest number of number of items - some unpublished for the category.
The main features of the interior were inspired by the pickup concept X-Treme, the Chevrolet recently exhibited at the Salon in Bangkok, Thailand.
The new S10 brings fairly complete instrument panel and easy to read. It can include the latest generation on-board computer with comprehensive information such as navigation, digital speedometer and maintenance of vehicle parameters, including the life of -relevante oil for vehicles that are subject to severe conditions of use.
The onboard computer also has the interesting function "ECO", which helps the driver to drive the vehicle in a way to favor the lower fuel consumption. The driver can also see the tire pressure. A warning is given when one of them leaves the recommended specification by the manufacturer.
The panel's center was more imposing with majoradas air vents and the multimedia second generation MyLink with GPS. The system will add high-resolution screen and new features, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
In practice, this means greater possibility of interaction between the vehicle and the user's smartphone. And the best: with the voice command option, so the driver need not take your hands off the wheel or focus on traffic.
The armrests and door handles have also been reworked, as well as coatings of different banks. Already the direction now has electric assist, reducing the need for the driver effort.
"The visual changes, the use of noble materials and the use of hi-tech technologies reinforce the avant-garde image S10," says Carlos Barba, director of Chevrolet design.
"Since launching the model in 1995, Chevrolet has been the company that best comes interpreting the needs and pickup of consumer desires in Brazil. It was based on that experience we designed the new S10, "adds the executive.
A new car
The 2017 version of the average Chevrolet pickup is more sophisticated in all its configurations. Among the new available convenience items, include:
- automatic activation of headlamps;
- Rain sensor;
- Electrochromic Rear View Mirror;
- reverse camera with graphics to aid in maneuvers;
- front parking sensor;
- Remote Ignition Drive;
- side windows with remote mechanism for opening and closing by means of the key.
Items like lanterns and fog lights, digital air-conditioning with eight-speed, electric folding exterior mirrors, driver's seat with electric adjustments are also available.
Other highlights are the electronic controls of traction (TC) and stability (EPS) and starting assistants ramps (HSA) and descent (HDC).
While the starting assistant ramps does not allow the vehicle to pull back on steep outputs; lowering the assistant controls the speed steep descents without the need for driver intervention, providing greater control of the vehicle.
distraction against Alerts
The new S10 also enhances its active safety package. It adopts ABS braking system with EBD (distribution of braking force) of last generation and new technologies such as the track deviation warning and the frontal collision warning, common only to a higher category vehicles.
The track deviation alert has a camera on top of the windscreen that "reads" the road tracks and gives a warning every time you realize that the vehicle is unintentionally leaving the lane. If the flash is activated, the mechanism understands that the maneuver is intentional and does not come into action.
The frontal collision alert other equipment useful in everyday life. Through it, the driver can electronically establish a minimum distance from the vehicle ahead and may, for example, be alerted if another car suffers a sudden reduction in speed. In addition to red lights flashing at the base of the windshield, an alarm sounds through the speakers of the truck.
"Market research shows that 67% of accidents are front. The vast majority of small and medium-sized rides and caused by distractions. The collision warning is shown to be relevant, especially in this kind of situation, "explains William Bertagni, vice president of engineering at General Motors.
New S10 debut with thirteen settings changes. There are four versions of finish (LS, LT, LTZ and High Country), three cabin options (single, double and chassis cab), two engine (2.8 TurboDiesel and 2.5 SIDI Flex), two types of transmission (manual and automatic, both six-speed), and two types of traction (4x2 and 4x4 with reduced).
All settings received an innovation package for better energy efficiency. Thus, there was an improvement in fuel consumption up to 5% from the previous model.
The result is basically the sum of the aerodynamic developments, the use of lighter materials, the adoption of tires "green" mixed-use and low-drag brakes, changing the transmission of differential interface (Flex) and the introduction of a system more efficient management of electrical motor loads, which includes new software in the car's control module, sensors, alternator with less internal losses, electro-fan brushless type (brushless) and electric steering.
Another innovation that the new S10 brings to the pickup segment is OnStar. Technology is an exclusive brand Chevrolet in Brazil.
OnStar is an advanced telematics system that offers the driver more than 20 Emergency services, security, navigation, Concierge and connectivity at a level never seen in the domestic automotive market.
New S10, the technology adds new features like valet alert. To activate it, the user receives a message if the valet to move away more than 500 meters with the car. You can also monitor the movement of the car and whether it exceeded the predetermined speed limit. All through the application for smartphones.
Rotating alert OnStar has been improved. From now on, the driver is warned when your vehicle approaches the restriction zone or when starts the vehicle at a place and time restricted the movement.
Another novelty is that pressing the left button on the center rear, the user can activate by voice command, services such as speed alerts and the valet, call the mechanical assistance service or start navigating a registered destination in OnStar application.
Pressing a button on the rearview, the driver is connected to a central to human service that offers services such as fast internet searches, bookings and information on traffic conditions (flooded or blocked roads).
You can also activate the OnStar button to apply mechanical, electrical or medical assistance in case of emergency.
The communication between the occupants and the attendant Service Center takes place through a unique cell line of the vehicle, which transmits the conversation by speakers and microphones system "hands-free" car.
OnStar also warns when the car is being stolen or involved in an accident that resulted in the firing of airbags.This is because the sensors scattered around the body are able to detect abnormal situations and alert the Service Center. trained professionals then make an analysis of the situation and request, if necessary, the assistance of the competent authorities.
OnStar also allows the user to command vehicle functions through a smartphone application, such as locking the doors.
The app can still set to receive notifications when the vehicle starts a new drive, to know what is your current location and also ask to be notified when the speedometer exceeds the predetermined speed limit - useful features especially when the car is sold to third parties .
The application is compatible with Android and iOS systems and can be downloaded from the Play Store and now the Apple Store.
New S10, Chevrolet offers complimentary OnStar service for 12 months. The qualification process can be started at the dealership. Further, the client receives an e-mail to complete your registration and give its approval for activation.
