1.5-liter turbo and 8AT for the compact SUV.

Acura is kicking off its Chinese production operations with the introduction of the brand new CDX SUV at the Beijing Motor Show.

Meet the new compact SUV from Acura, designed primarily for the Chinese market and marking the tenth anniversary of the brand in the country. It has roughly the same size as the Honda CR-V, but features sharp lines and muscular side profile. The front end has an impressively large radiator grille with equally huge Acura logo – both inspired by the Acura Precision Concept that was revealed in Detroit in early-2016.

The CDX will become the first Acura model to be offered in China with a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine with 182 horsepower (134 kilowatts) and 177 pound-feet (240 newton meters) of torque. It will be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with two clutches, sending power to front or both axles depending on the customer’s choice.

The 176.9-inch (4.49-meter) long vehicle marks another first for the company on the Chinese market – it will be locally produced at the ZengCheng Plant located in the city of Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda Automobile. It is scheduled to go on sale in July this year with prices between 250,000 and 300,000 yuan or about $38,000 - $46,000.

“2016 will mark the 10th anniversary of Acura in China,” commented Takahiro Hachigo, president, CEO and representative director of Honda. ”In this milestone year, we will take new challenges for the Acura brand and products including the start of local production in China. With the Acura Precision Concept at the core representing the future direction of Acura design, we will evolve the Acura brand and accelerate the localization of Acura business so that we can continue delivering products that go beyond the expectations of our customers.”
