The next-generation Honda CR-V has been caught testing in the United States.
Looking instantly recognizable, the redesigned model has an evolutionary front fascia with an angular grille that is flanked by new LED headlights. Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the model adopts a sportier greenhouse and a more pronounced shoulder line. Continuing further back, there's wraparound taillights, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and a sporty dual exhaust system.
The crossover's size is hard to judge but the prototype does appear to be slightly longer than its predecessor. This has fueled speculation the CR-V could be offered with a third-row seat but nothing is official as of yet.
Speaking of the interior, Honda CEO Takahiro Hachigo has previously said the CR-V will have "new technologies" and a higher level of competitiveness. This likely means we can expect a higher-quality interior with an advanced infotainment system and new safety features.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but the model could be offered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. There have also been rumors about a hybrid or plug-in hybrid variant but little is known about them.
The CR-V will be built in Canada and the crossover is expected to be introduced next year possibly as a 2018 model.
