The International Drone Racing Association has signed a multi-year media distribution deal with ESPN.

ESPN is recognizing the growing popularity of drone racing by inking a deal with IDRA to stream live the 2016 U.S. National Drone Racing Championships on ESPN3. After each event, there is going to be a one-hour televised special on an ESPN network to cover all the important moments from the race.

The very first IDRA event that will be broadcasted by ESPN will take place during August 5-7 on Governors Island, New York City for the 2016 U.S. National Drone Racing Championships. Those interested in participating at the event should know the organizers will set up a drone racing area for children, along with an entertainment venue for the whole family. Food, drink, and drone vendors will also be on location to help create a “summer festival atmosphere.”

In addition, ESPN3 will also air the 2016 World Drone Racing Championships set for October 17-22 at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii. Pilots from more than 30 countries will battle on four, world-class courses, and six, separate racing events for prizes totaling $200,000.

If you are familiar with drone racing, you probably have also heard about the Drone Racing League and the impressive demonstration on the Miami Dolphins’ Sun Life Stadium in Florida back in January. If not, you can check out the video HERE which pretty much resembles a video game.
