Luxury and mainstream models come out on top.
The winners of the prestigious 2016 Wards 10 Best Interiors have been announced.
This year's winners include both luxury and non-luxury vehicles such as the Audi TTS, BMW 7-Series, Cadillac XT5, Chevrolet Camaro, Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Civic, Lexus RX, Mercedes GLC, Nissan Maxima, and Volvo XC90.
Forty-seven vehicles were evaluated as part of this year’s competition and eight WardsAuto editors spent two months judging the models based on aesthetics and design harmony. The judges also considered a handful of other factors including comfort, fit-and-finish, and the quality of the materials used. Other factors included ergonomics, safety, value, and the user-friendliness of the "human-machine interface to see how effectively vehicle information is communicated."
The list consists mainly of luxury vehicles but WardsAuto notes the Camaro, Civic, Maxima, and Pacifica feature high quality materials as well as advanced connectivity and safety systems that are commonly found on premium vehicles. As WardsAuto's director of content, Drew Winter, explained “It’s important that the Wards 10 Best Interiors list include mainstream, affordable vehicles but the average price of a new vehicle in the U.S. has risen past $33,000, which is forcing us to reconsider how we define mainstream, affordable vehicles.”
