The Swedish company is already enjoying strong sales for its flagship XC90 SUV and soon it will be joined by its little brother on the market, the new XC60. Currently in its first generation, the vehicle is a true bestseller with 77,197 deliveries in 2015, up by 23 percent compared to 2014, leading the premium midsize SUV segment in Europe.
Despite this, Volvo will likely take the revolutionary path, rather than the evolutionary. Basically, this means we’ll see a vehicle, based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and using exclusively four-cylinder engines. Lower weight will be combined with sporty look, as seen in the attached unofficial rendering by Jan Kamenistiak.
It is believed the new XC60 will be launched before the end of the year and the Paris Motor Show this fall sounds like a reasonable venue for the big debut. We’ll have to wait for official confirmation from the company, which is also already working on the even smaller XC40 SUV. It will adopt the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and could see the light of day before the end of next year.
