Produces up to 290 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque

Volkswagen is celebrating the Golf GTI's 40th anniversary by introducing the new Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40 in the United Kingdom.

Essentially a renamed version of the Golf GTI Clubsport, the model features an aggressive body kit that includes a new front bumper, revised side skirts, and a sporty rear diffuser.  The car has also been equipped with a tailgate-mounted spoiler and unique 18-inch forged alloy wheels.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find Alcantara / cloth sport seats, red contrast stitching, and a golf ball inspired shifter.  The model also has an Alcantara-wrapped sport steering wheel, "Honeycomb 40" trim, and special floor mats with red edging.

Power is provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 265 horsepower.  However, the engine has an overboost function which will temporarily enable the model to develop 290 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The engine can be connected to either a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed DSG gearbox. Regardless of which transmission is selected, the model will accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 155 mph.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40 is currently available to order and pricing starts at £30,875.  Only 1,000 models are expected to be offered in the United Kingdom and deliveries are slated to begin this summer.
