Fiat has used the New York Auto Show to introduce the 2017 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth.
Designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts, the model features a sportier front fascia, black side skirts, and 17-inch aluminum wheels with a Gun Metal finish. The unique styling continues out back as designers installed a new rear bumper and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.
The interior largely carries over but drivers will find leather and microfiber sport seats with red contrast stitching. Additional changes are limited but the model has also been equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a revised instrument cluster, alloy pedals, and a special shifter.
A turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder engine resides under the hood and produces 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Fiat declined to say how fast the car is but noted the engine can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Since the car was designed to appeal to enthusiasts, engineers installed a sport-tuned suspension and a limited slip rear differential. Customers can also order an optional Brembo braking system which has four piston monoblock aluminum calipers.
The Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth will arrive at dealerships this summer and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
