Tesla Motors has announced it is taking orders for a Ludicrous Mode upgrade for Model S P90D models.
Until now, the Ludicrous Mode for the range-topping P90D was available only when configuring the vehicle at the dealership, but the Californian automaker can now upgrade all P90D models with that function.
These vehicles will receive a new “advanced smart fuse” that replaces the standard fuse, as well as Inconel main pack contactor instead of the standard steel contactor. Thanks to these two improvements, the P90D can get an increased max power output of the battery pack from 1300 Amps to 1500 Amps.
Tesla says the upgrade will improve the 0-60 miles per hour (0-98 kilometers per hour) acceleration time with 10 percent to 2.8 seconds, while the time to 155 mph (255 km/h) is now 20 percent faster than on a standard Model S Performance. The updated quarter mile time is now 10.9 seconds.
The automaker is asking $10,000 for the Ludicrous Mode upgrade plus all taxes and labor costs that are involved. In addition to the software and mechanical upgrade, Tesla will also put a revised P90D badge.
