A heavily camouflaged prototype of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate was caught on camera while being unloaded.
Mercedes came out with the E43 just last week, but those with a bigger thirst for power (and deeper pockets) are waiting for the crown jewel of the range, the E63. Seen here is a prototype of the estate wearing a significant amount of disguise to hide the wider and more aggressive body. Compared to the warm E43, the range-topping model has substantially beefier bumpers with larger air intakes and also a different hood to accommodate the bigger engine.
Speaking of which, lurking underneath the muscular hood is a new iteration of Mercedes-AMG’s biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine which will reportedly offer 550 hp in the standard E63 and around 580 hp in the flagship E63 S. Mercedes hinted in the past the new E63 could be 4MATIC-only as demand for a rear-wheel-drive layout is declining which is why the high-performance midsize model could become all-wheel drive only.
Matching the powerful heart will be an uprated set of brakes and quad exhaust tips flanked by a prominent rear diffuser. A sportier suspension setup is also in the works to make the new E63 lean and mean while the interior will also go through some changes to further set the model apart from its more humble brothers.
It will take some time until the E63 Estate will be out as the regular estate will be launched first and that should happen in the coming months. The first E63 member of the W213 generation will obviously be the sedan which is probably set for an October reveal at the Paris Motor Show. As for the estate in the full-blown AMG guise, it will probably be introduced early next year.
