Subaru has announced the all-new 2017 Impreza will receive its official premiere later this month at the New York Auto Show.

Previewed by the promising Impreza 5-Door and Impreza Sedan concepts last year, the new generation will be Subaru’s first model part of the “Prominence 2020” program announced in May 2014. Don’t expect the Impreza hatchback and sedan to look as exciting as the concepts, but even so we like what we see so far.

The announcement comes only a couple of days after Subaru offered a first glimpse of its new global platform set to debut on the new Impreza. Without going into too many details, Subaru says the new architecture will enable models to deliver a more dynamic driving experience and a more comfortable ride thanks to lower NVH levels. The platform is 70% to 100% more rigid compared to the outgoing hardware and will reduce body roll by a massive 50% thanks to a new stabilizer mounted directly to the body.

Details concerning the powertrains are not available at this point, but there could be a new array of downsized turbocharged units linked to a six-speed manual and an optional CVT. The hardware will obviously include Subaru’s reputable Symmetrical All Wheel Drive system providing all the traction you will ever need.

Getting back to the NY reveal, Subaru doesn’t specify if it will introduce both the sedan and the hatchback or just one of the two body styles. Chances are both of them will be on display starting March 23 when the show opens its doors to the press.
