The Maserati Alfieri concept was unveiled two years ago and the strong reaction to the model pushed the company to confirm plans for a production variant a few months later.

The model was originally slated to be introduced after the Levante but it appears things have changed as Alfa Romeo and Maserati boss Harald Wester has suggested the company will instead focus on replacements for the GranTursimo and GranCabrio.  The executive was tight-lipped about specifics but Maserati's five year plan revealed the cars will slot above the Alfieri and feature a V8 engine that develops more than 560 horsepower.

When asked whether or not the Alfieri was still on schedule, Wester replied, “I don’t know. I need to talk to my people."  He went on to say, "I think we talk too much about the future. Nobody else does, so I confirm what we said, that’s it."

The statements will not put fans at ease but the Alfieri is slated to be offered as a coupe and convertible with rear- or all-wheel drive.  The company has also said the car will be offered with a V6 engine that has outputs ranging from 410 to 520 hp.
