BMW will allegedly put the M2 CSL into production, if we are to believe a new report.

The rumor for a super high-performance CSL version of the recently introduced M2 is nothing new but now it appears that BMW M is currently in the “planning stage” for that model. While that’s pretty vague, it sounds like the German company has already green-lighted the sports coupe, according to BMW Blog.

Planned as a possible rival for the Porsche Cayman GT4, the M2 CSL will be a lighter and more powerful version of the M2. You can also expect it to be wider, lower, and featuring updated aerodynamics and braking system to match the additional power.

While nothing is confirmed yet, the 3.0-liter biturbo petrol engine of the M2 could be tuned to deliver 400 horsepower (294 kW) and hopefully it will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

If the recent report is legit, we expect to see the limited-run special edition as early as late 2017. It will definitely be a more expensive model than the standard M2 that starts at $61,166 in the UK, so a starting price of around $70,000 sounds reasonable.
