The 2017 Acura NSX just went up for order yesterday and a new report is indicating the company could be considering a high-performance NSX Type-R.

Citing company insiders, The Detroit Bureau is reporting that engineers are looking at ways to "bump power and performance up another notch or two."  Details are hazy at this point but the publication is reporting the high-performance model could be equipped with an upgraded electrical system, a larger lithium-ion battery, or a different battery with a revised chemistry mixture.

Engineers are also said to be considering an upgraded version of the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine.  It currently produces 500 horsepower and insiders have that output is "far from nearing the limits of its design."

Besides featuring an upgraded powertrain, the NSX Type-R could be equipped with an assortment of carbon fiber components.  Nothing is official but the standard NSX can be outfitted with a carbon fiber front spoiler, a carbon fiber roof, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser - just to name few.  Of course, engineers could further reduce the car's weight by adding lightweight sport seats and removing some sound deadening material.
