It was only earlier this week when we published a fresh batch of spy images with the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 and now the prototype is back for extra camera action.
Mercedes just kicked off production of the regular E Class Sedan and the company with the three-pointed star logo is already in the advanced stages of development with the meaner E63. Seen here is a prototype of the range-topping model with less camouflage than before which gives us the opportunity to check out more of the metal.
It wears a significantly more aggressive body with beefier front and rear bumpers, a lowered and stiffer suspension, along with AMG black multi-spoke wheels backed by light gold brake calipers. The disguise at the front can’t hide the larger air intakes while at the back we notice a more prominent diffuser flanked by quad exhaust tips.
Under the hood it’s definitely getting a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine which is expected to develop as much as 550 horsepower in the standard E63 and close to 580 hp in the E63 S. Mercedes-AMG could decide to sell the high-performance midsize sedan only with an all-wheel-drive 4MATIC setup as the company says demand for a RWD configuration is declining.
Mercedes could decide to bring the new E63 at the beginning of October during the Paris Motor Show and start selling it before the year’s end. It will be followed a few months later by the estate and eventually by the coupe and cabriolet body styles.
