Renault has released a teaser image for the Megane Sport Tourer that will be revealed in full on Monday.
Earlier this week we heard about Renault’s plans for a second Geneva premiere and we assumed it’s the Megane Sport Tourer since the French said it’s another compact model joining the new Scenic. It seems we were right as Renault has released on Twitter a teaser image which shows the profile of a wagon and it can only be the more practical Megane.
We’ve seen it testing numerous times and even though the prototypes carried an extensive amount of disguise, the makeup couldn’t hide the fact that it’s going to be an attractive wagon. That’s not really surprising taking into account the all-new Megane hatchback looks nice especially when you compare it to the old model which wasn’t exactly a looker.
The Megane Sport Tourer will be more than just a pretty face as it should turn out to be a very capable family car. Since the five-door hatch has a trunk that can carry 15.3 cu. ft. (434 liters) of cargo, the wagon will likely have somewhere in the region of 19.4 cubic feet (550 liters). Compared to the old Megane, the new hatchback has an additional 20 mm of rear knee room and offers 25 liters of interior storage space. Since the wheelbase will remain the same from hatch to wagon, the Sport Tourer will be just as spacious.
As for the engine lineup, it’s not a secret since the Megane ST will use the hatchback’s three gasoline units and three turbodiesels. Customers will be able to pick from TCe 100, 130, and 205 as well as from the more economical dCi 90, 110, 130 diesels. The 205-hp GT version should look pretty sweet in wagon form and it will come as standard with a six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox.
Following its online reveal on February 22, the all-new 2016 Renault Megane Sport Tourer will receive its proper introduction on March 1 at the Geneva Motor Show.
