Ram is introducing an optional 4x4 Off-road Package for the 2500 which will be exhibited starting this week at the Chicago Auto Show.

A response to Ford’s FX4 and Chevy’s Z71, the 4x4 Off-road Package tailored to the Ram 2500 brings a series of upgrades to make the truck a more competent vehicle on difficult terrains. You’ll be able to get in either the Crew or Mega Cab versions and with any of the engines, trim levels, and bed lengths available.

For your money’s worth, the kit brings Bilstein monotube shocks, a limited-slip differential, and a set of Firestone LT on/off-road tires to boost traction regardless of terrain. Also part of the package is a a useful Hill-descent Control system and a transfer case skid plate which will prevent damages to the truck’s underbody.

Rounding off the list of upgrades is a big “4x4 OFF ROAD” decal applied on the rear corner of the bed on both sides to denote it’s not the run-of-the-mill Ram 2500.

The optional equipment will be available starting with the third quarter of this year at a yet undisclosed price tag. Ram labels the 4x4 Off-road Package as a “value-priced option”, so it won’t be expensive. For the sake of comparison, Ford is asking $295 for the FX4 on the F-250, while Chevy wants up to $620 for the Z71 kit, depending on selected Silverado HD model.

Ram will have the 2500 4x4 Off-road Package on display later this week at the Chicago Auto Show.
