BMW and Mercedes are skipping this year's Super Bowl but that hasn't stopped Audi from introducing an all-new commercial that promotes the 2017 R8.

Dubbed “The Commander,” the 60 second commercial tells the story of a retired Apollo astronaut who is slightly depressed that the best years are behind him.  However, his son hands him the keys to an Audi R8 V10 plus and he suddenly experiences all the joy and excitement of traveling to space once again.

The ad will be shown during the first quarter and Audi says the commercial "reminds us that amazing things happen when we shoot for the moon."

The 2017 Audi R8 will go on sale this spring and the entry-level model features a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 540 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.  The engine is connected to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and a rear-biased quattro all-wheel-drive system which enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 199 mph.

The range-topping R8 V10 plus uses the same engine but it has been tuned to produce 610 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. This enables the high-performance variant to rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 205 mph.
