Pininfarina has published a teaser image of a brand new concept set to premiere next month at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The troubled Italian design house has a new “exciting concept car” to show and judging by the attached teaser image it will be a sports car. Details have not been disclosed, but the front splitter indicates it’s a performance vehicle and could have something to do with Ferrari judging by the red strip.

We remind you that towards the end of last year Mahindra acquired a controlling stake in Pininfarina by purchasing 76.06% of the company’s shares. The new owners have promised to keep the design house independent and this new concept will be the first product under the new ownership.

These concepts don’t bring in the money, so hopefully Mahindra will help the design house sign some contracts with other automakers for production cars. The last product to wear Pininfarina’s signature was the South East Motor DX7 SUV released last year at Auto Shanghai as the "the first Chinese SUV with an Italian touch.”

One of the reasons why Pininfarina is in a bad financial shape nowadays is because car manufacturers prefer to develop their designs in-house to save money. Externalizing the process costs significantly more, so it remains to be seen how Mahindra will adapt Pininfarina to the current trends in the industry.
