Renault has prepared a pair of KWID concepts for this year’s Auto Expo in India.

The KWID petite crossover went on sale in India about four months ago and it has already generated 90,000 orders. Renault has decided to celebrate the model’s big success by preparing a duo of concepts for Auto Expo which kicks off this week.

First up, the KWID RACER is as the name suggests, a sportier take on the model and adopts a more aggressive body style. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels shod in low-profile tires and wears a metallic blue finish combined with red accents and a black roof.

The interior cabin has been transformed into a two-seater as the rear bench was removed to make room for a roll cage. The race car feel is enhanced by the addition of bucket seats with four-point harnesses and there’s also a flat-bottomed steering wheel covered in leather. A variety of aluminum and Alcantara accents have been added and combined with a Titane Black trim to spice things up even further.

As for the KWID CLIMBER, this one is envisioned as an off-roader which is why it has an increased ground clearance and chunkier tires. It has gained front and rear underbody protection, four-point LED daytime running lights, and electric blue body accents.

Besides brining the two concepts, Renault is also introducing a newly developed 1.0-liter SCe engine for the road-going KWID, but specifications have not been released so far. We do know it will be paired to a new five-speed automated manual transmission featuring three driving modes.

Renault India says the new engine and gearbox will be offered locally in the near future.
