Consumers can't seem to get enough crossovers and BMW is more than happy to oblige as company's upcoming X2 has been spied undergoing cold weather testing.
Billed as a sporty alternative to the X1, the X2 resembles a high-riding hatchback with as it features a rakish windscreen, a compact greenhouse, and a gently sloping roof. The model also has a sporty front fascia with a wide grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. Other notable features include an angular beltline, a dual exhaust system, and a small rear liftgate with an integrated spoiler.
Specifications remain unconfirmed but the model will ride on the front-wheel UKL platform that underpins the X1 and the 2 Series Active Tourer. Engine options will likely carryover from the aforementioned models so expect to see an assortment of familiar petrol and diesel units including a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder that produces develops 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. There have also been rumors about an M Performance variant that could have approximately 300 hp.
The BMW X2 is expected to be introduced later this year or early next year and rumors have indicated the model will be previewed by an all-new concept.
