Barrett-Jackson auctioned off last night the 1995 VW Jetta from the first Fast and Furious movie for a cool $42,000.
Previously owned by Frankie Muniz, the Jetta is signed by movie director Rob Cohen and also by the late Paul Walker. It was auctioned without a reserve and managed to fetch a rather impressive $42,000. While in the movie the car lacked front brake calipers, in the meantime it managed to gain a Brembo setup. In addition, it made the switch from Toyo to Pirelli tires and the side mirrors now have a different design.
The amount of money it managed to generate comes as a surprise since this is basically a mostly stock Jetta from 1995 with a humble turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and a four-speed automatic. Those numerous body decals don’t add any horsepower, but at least on the inside it has a PlayStation 2 to play Gran Turismo 4.
As for the Fast and Furious movie franchise, it’s far from being over even though the series already has seven films. An additional three will hit the theaters in the years to come, with the first one due in April 2017. Directed by F. Gary Gray, Fast 8 will mostly take place in New York and will feature the usual cast members, including Kurt Russel set to have a more important role.
