Dressed in extensive camouflage, the Discovery 5 prototype looks less boxy than the model it’s bound to replace and we expect many of the design cues to be taken from the Discovery Sport. The rounded front end will be heavily inspired by the latter and you will notice at the back the horizontal taillights replacing the vertical arrangement of the Discovery 4.

To get an idea of how the model will look once the camo will come off, the Discovery Vision Concept shown back in 2014 is a clear indication of where the new Disco is headed.

Land Rover has already announced the new Discovery will be offered initially with a seven-seat layout which will be part of a lineup that will include at least three members. Expect the off-roader to ride on the same platform that has underpinned the Range Rover, so prepare for a considerable weight loss thanks to an aluminum-intensive construction.

Our spy photographers weren’t able to take snapshots of the interior cabin, but most likely it will be a mixture of the Discovery Sport and the more upscale Range Rover. On the tech side we expect to see a laser scanning system that will automatically adjust the suspension and gearbox depending on the road’s conditions.

The trusty turbodiesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine will be at the core of the engine family and most likely Land Rover will also offer its crop of Ingenium motors. One of these units will work with an electric motor for a mild hybrid derivative set to join the range later during the car’s life cycle. We checked the prototype's license plate and managed to find out it's powered by the SDV6 turbodiesel 3.0-liter motor.

Expect to see the all-new Land Rover Discovery to go official in October at the Paris Motor Show, with sales to kick off before the end of the year.
