BMW has officially introduced the new Competition Package for the M3 and M4.

BMW has officially introduced the new Competition Package for the M3 and M4.

Set to be offered this spring, the Competition Package includes exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels and an M sports exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes.  The package also adds BMW Individual Shadow Line accents on the grille, mirrors, and window surrounds.

Interior changes are relatively minor but include lightweight M sports seats and special seat belts with BMW M stripes.

Bigger changes occur under the hood as the 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine has been turned to produce 450 horsepower which is an increase of 19 hp. Thanks to the extra oomph, the M3 and M4 Coupe can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.0 seconds when equipped with the optional seven-speed M Double Clutch transmission.   Likewise, the M4 Convertible completes the same task in 4.3 seconds.

To put those numbers into perspective, all models equipped with the Competition Package are 0.1 second faster to 100 km/h than models without the package.  This applies regardless of which transmission is selected.

Besides the performance boost, the Competition Package includes an Adaptive M Suspension with new springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars.  The package also adds an Active M Differential, a retuned Dynamic Stability Control system, and reconfigured driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport+).
