Daimler considers there’s still room for expansion in the three-pointed star’s lineup which is why a rumor from last October suggested the C Class family will eventually gain a four-door coupe model. It will reportedly be out by the end of the decade and could be based on the long-wheelbase C Class sold in China. If the reports are valid, the model will act as a direct adversary for the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Taking into account it won’t be out in the next couple of years, chances are it will in fact be based on the facelifted C-Class. It’s not really that hard to imagine how the CLC will look like, since it’s basically going to be a baby CLS. It will lose some of the rear headroom and trunk capacity for the sake of a more sloped roofline enabling a sleeker and stylish profile.

While the “CLC” moniker makes sense given the current nomenclature, let’s not forget Mercedes used this nameplate for a three-door hatchback sold between 2008 and 2011. As for the new one, 2020 sounds too far away, so maybe Mercedes will have it ready sooner than that.
