Mercedes is ready to start the New Year that will bring a series of important launches, kicking off with the E Class W213 teased here in an official sketch.
As you’ve come to expect from these teasers, the attached sketch proposes a very sleek design even though in reality the car won’t be as dramatic. The drawing depicted here would be more suitable for a new CLS (could be called CLE) rather than the standard E Class as that sloping roofline creates the profile of a four-door coupe.
After seeing numerous spy photos and videos, we all know the new E will have very much in common both inside and out with the C and S. Mercedes tells us the “emotional design” will be combined with “intelligent high-tech” to embody the company’s latest design philosophy of Sensual Purity. It will ride on the MRA platform and is going to be bigger than the outgoing W212, but even so it will actually shed some serious weight.
The interior cabin will borrow many cues from the S Class, including the dual digital screen and the four central air vents. There’s going to be an analog instrument cluster as well, but only for the base model and most likely not a lot of people will actually go for that.
Check back tonight as Mercedes will release a teaser video called “The new E Class - Coming Home Light (short version).” The Daimler-owned company had a similar teaser last year with the C Class and based on that we know the clip will be about headlight technology. We will upload it to this story once available.
A full debut will occur on January 11 during the first press preview day of the 2016 NAIAS in Detroit.
