The Volkswagen Amarok is starting to show its age so it comes as little surprise the company is reportedly working on a facelifted variant.
According to CarAdvice, the updated Amarok will be introduced in mid-2016 and feature an upgraded interior that will likely have an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The cabin is also slated to have revised trim and upholstery combinations but nothing is official as of yet.
On the styling front, there isn't much to report but the publication says we shouldn't expect anything to radical. This likely means the truck will have a modestly revised front fascia with an updated grille and restyled headlights.
Engine options will reportedly carryover but there could be minor modifications to improve performance and fuel efficiency.
The update comes at a critical time as the Amarok is facing stiff competition from newer competitors such as the Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton / L200, and Toyota HiLux. Things won't be getting any easier in the future either as Mercedes has confirmed plans to launch a pickup by 2020.
