The engineers at Gabura Racing Technologies have announced their intentions to fit a V8 engine inside the BMW i8.

Many will agree the BMW i8 needs a proper engine to match its sporty and futuristic shape and now someone is willing to do just that. Gabura Racing Technologies has revealed plans to install a twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter S63 engine from the M6 Coupe at the front of the i8. It won’t be the standard version as the motor in question was initially tuned by Alpina and now Gabura is fiddling with its internals to squeeze even more power. The end result? About 800 bhp (597 kW).

The V8-powered BMW i8 is currently a work in progress, so we will keep you up to date whenever the tuner will share more details about its interesting project. If you haven’t heard of Gabura Racing Technologies, the company is specialized in racing gearboxes and chances are the i8 will gain a 6-speed sequential manual transmission installed in front of the rear axle.

There’s no word about performance just yet, but you can imagine it will be way faster than a stock i8 that hits 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.4 seconds. It won’t be nearly as efficient as the standard model, but the point of this tuning project is to make the car a lot more powerful and quicker at the expense of fuel economy.
