We have just received a second batch of images with BMW’s all-new 5-Series GT set to come out towards the end of 2017 as a 2018MY.

The 5-Series Gran Turismo is not exactly the prettiest model BMW currently has on sale which is why the model is a slow-seller in Europe. However, China loves it for its added practicality and as a consequence a new one is in the works and could turn out more attractive.

The prototype spotted on the streets of Munich is dressed in camouflage, but nevertheless it’s still easy to notice the more sloped roofline creating a sleeker profile. The rear end seems to be very different and we consider this as good news taking into account the main issue with the current GT is the peculiar tailgate.

In terms of underpinnings, it will ride on the same CLAR platform as the new 7-Series and this will enable an estimated weight loss of 100 kg (220 lbs). We are not entirely sure, but the prototype does seem to be a tad bigger than the current 5-Series GT and this will result in a roomier interior cabin with more space for rear passengers and quite possibly a larger trunk.

According to the latest reports, the all-new 5-Series Sedan will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016. This likely means the Touring will be out in March 2017 in Geneva and should be followed by the GT at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. If that’s correct, it will go on sale by the end of 2017 as a 2018MY.
