It doesn’t look as sleek as we were tempted to believe after seeing the teaser from earlier this month, but it’s still a nice evolution of the Koeru concept to production form. The new three-row, seven-seat crossover shows a major design evolution compared to the outgoing model and looks more dynamic thanks to the shorter front and rear overhangs.
The interior draws its inspiration from other recent models such as the CX-5 and Mazda6, but adapted to a seven-seater layout with a 2+3+2 arrangement. This appears to be a more expensive version with full leather upholstery finished in a copper hue that has also been applied on the door panels and dashboard.
Details about what will power the 2016 Mazda CX-9 are scarce at the moment, but we do know it will fully embrace the latest Skyactiv technologies. The big news could be a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine joining the familiar four-cylinder motors teamed up to a front-wheel drive layout and an AWD setup.
The Los Angeles Auto Show will open its doors to the press today, so it won’t be long until we will have all the juicy details.
