The limited-run Mercedes-Benz SL 550 Mille Miglia 417 Edition was photographed in the metal at a recent car meet in the United States.
While we are waiting for Mercedes-Benz to fully show us the facelifted SL, here are several live images of the outgoing version in the rare “Mille Miglia 417 Edition” that was available for the SL 400 and the SL 500 (SL 550 in United States). This was a special package created to celebrate sixty years since a 300 SL with the racing number “417” and driven by American racer John Fitch won in its class at Mille Miglia. Coincidentally, the race started at 4:17 AM and ended after 1,597 km (992 miles) covered in 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 21 seconds.
Getting back to the car at hand, the most striking visual change is represented by the designo night black magno matte paint finish combined with red and matte carbon accents. It rides on AMG Performance wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear while inside the cabin it has AMG Line sports seats with a carbon-like leather and red trim that has also been applied onto the steering wheel.
Propulsion for this US-spec SL 550 version comes from the familiar V8 4.7-liter bi-turbo engine with 449 bhp (335 kW) at 5,250 rpm which is enough muscle for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in four and a half seconds.
As for the facelifted SL, it will be officially revealed next week to the public at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
