A new report is indicating BMW is developing a dual-clutch automatic gearbox suitable for front-wheel drive models.
Currently, FWD vehicles of BMW and MINI are offered with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic gearbox by Aisin. If rumors turn out to be true, the Bavarian company will introduce a 7-speed DCT for the sporty modifications of its FWD models.
BMW Blog reports these models include the possible X1 M or X1 M40i and their X2 siblings, as well as the MINI JCW versions. The dual-clutch transmission is expected to provide quicker and more aggressive shifting.
If the company is working on a DCT indeed, it could be launched in at least two years from now.
