After last weekend’s pics published by German media, Mercedes-Benz has decided to just post several images with the body of their upcoming all-new E-Class sedan (W213 generation).
This isn’t really big news, because we have seen prototypes featuring the production body numerous times in these past few weeks, but at least now the camo is off to prove once again Daimler’s new mid-size model will borrow many of the design cues from its C and S brothers.
As for the interior, spy shots have shown it will take notes from the S-Class and in some of the attached images you can see that it has a similar dual screen layout. However, we are not excluding the possibility this is just a provisional setup and the production car will adopt a different dashboard.
One of the biggest novelties will be the new array of straight-six turbodiesel engines with twin- and quad-turbo configurations, but these haven’t been confirmed just yet. There are also rumors concerning a newly developed 1.6-liter turbodiesel to replace the Renault-sourced unit while at the other end of the spectrum there’s obviously going to be a new E63 which will get a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter from the C63 and AMG GT.
Mercedes-Benz has already announced the new E-Class will be a technological tour-de-force, hinting it could actually get a semi-autonomous driving system. Those who will want more luxury and comfort, but don’t want the S-Class, will have the option of getting a long wheelbase version that might actually be sold under the newly established Mercedes-Maybach brand.
The Daimler-owned marque is apparently cooking up a direct competitor for the Audi A6 allroad quattro, so expect to see a rugged and jacked up E-Class Estate with a 4MATIC setup.
