Ferrari is showcasing these days in Frankfurt their most powerful Spider model ever, based on the 488 GTB.
It looks a lot like the coupe, but makes the switch to a retractable hard top sourced from the 458 Spider and according to Ferrari it is 25 kg (55 lbs) lighter than a regular soft top and at the same time provides superior protection against noises and elements. It takes 14 seconds for the RHT to open or close even when the car is in motion and this new roof corroborated with the improved torsional rigidity have boosted the chassis' performance by 23% compared to the 458 Spider.
Power comes from the same V8 3.9-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 670 PS (493 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque which guarantees a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 3 seconds and a 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) sprint in 8.7 seconds. Ferrari says the new engine provides a throttle response of only 0.8 seconds which almost eliminates the annoying turbo lag of similar motors.
Joining the 488 Spider at Frankfurt Motor Show is a 488 GTB painted in Bianco Italia combined with a Blu Sterling interior. Also at IAA is the FF in Grigio Silverstone and an F12 with a Rossa Corsa paint while the F12 GTO / Speciale is missing in action.
