Opel has released new details about the connectivity systems that will be available on the 2016 Astra.

First and foremost, the Astra will become the first Opel model to be offered with OnStar from launch.  It provides owners with a variety of services including remote vehicle diagnostics, directions and emergency assistance in the event of a crash.  The service will be available in 13 markets including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Models equipped with OnStar will also feature a 4G/LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.  Unfortunately, it will only be supported in three markets - Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom - at launch.

The 2016 Astra will also be offered with two new IntelliLink infotainment systems.  The entry-level R 4.0 IntelliLink system has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, while the Navi 900 IntelliLink supports Apple CarPlay.  However, the latter system will gain Android Auto compatibility sometime next year.
