Audi is already working on the next generation A8, but that hasn't stopped the German brand to introduce a new range-topping S8 Plus version for the current model.
The new S8 Plus becomes the most powerful variant of the series to date. In terms of design it differs from the “standard” S8 with a new spoiler lip at the back that is available in body color and in carbon fiber. The single-frame grille and double bars at the front are in gloss black, while the honeycomb structure of the side air inlets and radiator screen are in matt black. The headlights feature Matrix LED technology as standard equipment in Germany and come with dynamic turn signals.
Inside the cabin the sporty feeling is carried over with a black full-leather interior with contrasting red stitching. The center console is finished in piano black, while the pedals and footrest have a stainless steel cover. The standard equipment includes an ambient lighting, a convenience key with sensor-driven luggage compartment locking, full-leather interior package, Alcantara package, power-assisted door closing and a DVD/CD changer.
Probably the most important improvement is hiding beneath the body, where the 4.0 TFSI engine has been retuned and now delivers an impressive 605 PS (445 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque that can jump to 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) in overboost mode. The large sport sedan, whose power was boosted 85 PS (63 kW) compared to the S8, needs 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155.3 mph), but can optionally be increased to 305 km/h (189.5 mph).
Modifications to the 4.0 TFSI range from a special engine control with speed and charge pressure boosting to modified exhaust valves and the inner geometry of the turbocharger that was optimized for efficiency. The unit is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels through a quattro system. In Germany, the car comes with 21-inch wheels that were specially designed for the S8 Plus and size 275/35 tires.
The new Audi S8 plus will be available at the end of November, wearing a starting price of 145,200 EUR.
