The prototypes were wearing a full body camouflage, but nevertheless it's easy to notice this is the more rugged version of the A4 Avant as it has the allroad ingredients such as the jacked up suspension and the more pronounced wheel arches with plastic cladding. Although not visible on these cars, the front and rear bumpers will receive stainless steel underbody protection along with some exclusive alloy wheels.

As the name implies, the model will come with a quattro permanent all-wheel drive system as standard while the engines will be carried over from the regular A4 Avant, so expect a 2.0 TFSI with 190 PS & 252 PS along with a 2.0 TDI providing 150 PS & 190 PS and a beefier 3.0 TDI developing 218 PS & 272 PS. It's unlikely the A4 Avant's entry-level 1.4 TFSI engine with 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque will be offered on this variant as it doesn't have enough punch.

Chances are Audi will stage the world premiere of the Audi A4 allroad quattro in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with sales to begin by the end of the year or early 2016.
