It’s still too early to make any conclusions regarding the design of the next flagship model for the Swedish brand as the test car is still wearing some heavy bolt-on camouflage, as seen in the photos. However, it’s not hard to see the S90 will feature a sloping roofline, short rear overhang and XC90-inspired T-shaped headlights. Chances are the machine is already tested with production body, as well as production lights.
The successor of the aging S80 will be based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and will be powered by a range of 4-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engine, as well as by a hybrid system. An official reveal is expected in late 2015 or early 2016 with sales starting shortly after at slightly higher prices than the S80.
