VolkerWessels and KWS Infra have teamed up to develop the plastic road of the future.

Designed to be eco-friendly, the road is constructed of recycled plastic and features a hollow cavity that allows piping and cabling to be run underneath the road surface.  The roads will also be built using prefab construction which promises to ensure they are high quality and can be quickly assembled once they arrive at the job site.

More importantly, VolkerWessels says the plastic roads are resistant to corrosion and weathering and can withstand temperatures ranging from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius (-40 to 176 degrees Fahrenheit).  This could enable the plastic roads to have triple the life span of traditional roads.
