A new study has discovered that women are frequently charged 45 GBP (63 EUR) more than men for car repairs.
Conducting a survey among 182 garages in the UK, ClickMechanic found out that women are paying on average 45 GBP (63 EUR) more to car mechanics than men. For that purpose they took a 2011 Ford Focus in need of a clutch replacement across ten cities in the country.
Garages in eight out of the ten cities charged women up to 30% more than men. Topping the list is Birmingham where male drivers were asked for average 445 GBP (624 EUR), while female drivers had to pay an average 582 GBP (817 EUR).
Andrew Jervis, co-founder and CEO of ClickMechanic, commented that “while the vast majority of mechanics strive to provide honest and reliable quotes, these results show that there is a worrying minority of garages failing to do so.”
